Dick Moore (GC)

Temporary Sub-Lieutenant Richard Valentine Moore GC, known as Dick Moore,[1] of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve attached to HMS President was awarded the George Cross for the "great gallantry and undaunted devotion to duty" he showed in rendering mines safe during the blitz despite having 'no practical training'. His citation, published in the London Gazette of the 27 December 1940, noted his courage in tackling a damaged mine which had fallen on Dagenham in Essex on the 20th of September. Born 14 February 1916 in London and died in Warrington on 25 April 2003.
